Free & low-cost, community-based crisis support
The crisis walk-in centers and mobile crisis units listed here are community-based, publicly funded crisis services. They are not commercial treatment centers or private clinics. These services provide immediate, in-person support during mental health or substance use crises and are available in many communities 24/7. Care is typically free, low-cost, or billable to insurance. Inability to pay is rarely a barrier. Their shared goal is to deliver immediate stabilization, assessment, and connection to ongoing care, reducing unnecessary hospitalizations, emergency room visits, and law enforcement involvement.
Staffed by multidisciplinary teams, these centers provide short-term stabilization, assessment, and referrals for individuals in crisis. Services may include detox support, medication-assisted recovery, and counseling.
These mobile teams come directly to homes, schools, and community settings. Made up of clinicians, peers, and trained responders, they provide on-the-spot assessment, de-escalation, and stabilization in the community.
